Happy National Apple Pie Day

Photo from National Institutes of Health
Today is National Apple Pie Day!

This American as, well, you know, dessert is made from lots of wonderful ingredients that are grown right here in the United States. The key ingredient is well known right here in New York and even Central New York -- apples.

Called “America’s  favorite dessert” on the National Calendar Day website, Apple Pie Day iis celebrated annually each May 13.

The first apple pie recipe printed was in England in 1381. The list of ingredients included in the recipe were: good apples, good spices, figs, raisins, pears, saffron and cofyn.  (the cofyn is a casing of pastry).

Celebrate by digging out some of those apples you picked in the fall and make yourself a pie.
